Met review

Kelli Connell, 2006

This image caught my eye as I was browsing through the collection. The pink shirt stood out in the sea of dark images. I also saw the ferris wheel in the background, which creates the fun carnival setting for this image. The artist creates the appearance of two different, similar looking women standing near each other at a carnival. In fact, the two women are just one person, and the artist did an incredible job of combining the two images into a seamless creation. The artist feels that by creating an image of this nature she is able to say more with her photographs than someone could by taking a photo in a true environment. I am paraphrasing Connell's words in saying that the fiction of this image enables the photograph to portray the qualities of the subject a deep level.
